Healthier Margarita

It is that time of year, and I’m so freaking excited!!! What time of year you ask?! Margarita time! I’m not sure if there’s anything better than a delicious margarita in hand. I guess if that margarita were in my hand while I’m out with some palm trees and a beautiful beach view, that would be about the only way it’d be better! The wonderful thing about margaritas is there are sooooo many options!! This keeps it interesting and never boring. A lot of the pre-made varieties sneak in a lot of ingredients I’m not crazy about and just taste not quite right. If there is such a thing as a “healthy” alcohol drink- this is as close as it gets. Maybe we’ll just say healthier margarita.

An added bonus- tequila is minimally processed when you get blanco or silver variety, which I love. There are a lot of great high end options. I’m pretty happy with Lunazul blanco, but do you on which tequila. I like something that is smooth and clean, and this is what works for me in my price range. I'm not paid or sponsored.

Now that we’ve covered why blanco tequila….. da da da daaaa, the recipe:

Disclaimer I typically make this amount for two drinks so half it if you only want one, but I mean who really wants just one??

3 limes- this is approximately 4.5 ounces

Equal parts tequila blanco- 4.5 ounces=3 shots

1-1.5 ounces Grand Marnier (or triple sec, Cointreau, or even fresh squeezed orange juice.. just going for a slightly orange flavor. I happen to like the little bit of extra alcohol but that’s just me!)

1 Tablespoon organic agave syrup- you can use more or less based on your preference. This is what works for me!

½ a jalapeno (optional) if you want a basic margarita stick with the steps above. You want a little kick and variety- proceed with this

If making jalapeno option, take 1 slice of jalapeno and muddle (squish some of the jalapeno so that some of the juice comes out) in a cocktail shaker.

Add ice- I use about ½ cup to ¾ cup of ice.

Add in tequila, grand mariner, and squeeze your three limes into the shaker.

Add in 1 tablespoon of agave

Shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it… like a polaroid picture.. ok now just starting to give away my age. Or we can shake it off.. that makes me feel younger. Shake vigorously, you’re doing a great job if you have some small ice chips in your finished product!

Place a couple of slices of jalapeno if using into your glass. Pour your margarita in and you are in business! Now take a nice loud sip and go AHHHH in extreme enjoyment of the tasty beverage you now get to enjoy! Cheers my friends!
